Residential Services

CILA
(Community Integrated Living Arrangements)

WHOM WE SERVE:

Ages:                          18 and over

Communities:             Chicago and suburbs

Population:                 Men with severe and persistent mental illnesses.  Most frequently individuals are referred from a state psychiatric hospital or a nursing home.  They must be seen by a Pre-admissions screener and be approved by the Department of Mental Health.

SERVICES WE PROVIDE:

Individuals live in an apartment and have their own bedroom.  We concentrate on individual and group skill-building to improve community integration.  Residents and staff work to maintain psychiatric and medical stability, family ties, and to set long-term educational and vocational goals.  Our long-term goal is for the individual to move from the CILA to an apartment of their own.  When an individual does move to an apartment, CILA continues to provide services through home visits and continued inclusion in social activities.  Of course the former resident is welcome to visit friends who have remained living at CILA.

TYPICAL PROBLEMS THAT WE ADDRESS:

The first issue that has to be addressed is the move from a structured living facility to an apartment.  We provide time and opportunities for the new resident to develop independent living skills such as shopping, cooking, cleaning, and self-care.  Later in their stay, residents need encouragement to branch out from the CILA and to develop goals concerning increased socialization or education.

OUR APPROACH / PHILOSOPHY:

CILA is based on the concept that persons can successfully transition from living in a structured setting and have the ability  to set attainable goals in a community setting.  Residents develop individualized treatment goals with input from staff.  These goals assist the person to achieve in many areas such as having friends and a personal social life, obtaining GED or enrolling in college courses, re-connecting with family and preparing to find and keep employment.
